a dash of color

I anticipate that 2010 will be my year to end my fear of color. Actually, that isn't fair - I don't really *fear* color, I simply have commitment issues when it comes to color. You see, I am a labeler. I like things to fit into a particular "slot". For instance, is my color PINK, or could it be that pretty TURQUOISE. And then there is a soft FRENCH GRAY-BLUE. For some reason, I can't reconcile that I could be all three. The funny thing is, there are people that use color - vibrant pastels, pretty bright colors that just feel like happiness. So, in 2010, I am going to find a way to make color my friend. While I am not planning on making big changes, I would like to be comfortable with actually buying clothes in colors other than black, white, gray, and denim. I would like to introduce a bit of color in our home decor.

I found these lovely kitchens and while I ADORE my white kitchen, I do like that there are people out there that aren't afraid to make big commitments when it comes to tile and cabinet color - big commitments because it is an expensive thing to change if you tire of that particular color.

I found the best way to transition someone to color is to introduce dark woods...

I remember your kitchen pictures, and it certainly wouldn't be hard for you to try a few peices - maybe buy an old coffee tin in a blue or red, and use it as a wooden spoon holder? or as a rosemary pot?

can't wait to see what you do!

can see your dilemma. I love white kitchens but I am crazy for color. In fact I have to hold back. Everything you do is beautiful so I am sure this will be no different!

I'm jumping up and down here because I have issues with this. Not really, but, well, ...
See I love color, but I love too many colors. My favorites change all the time.
This is why I have fallen in love with white.
Because when I fall in love with aqua or pink or orange or red or lime green - It will go. And when I'm ready to move along to the next big love, maybe peach or fuschia I don't have any big expenses to deal with.
And yup, in my last house I had a room painted taxi cab yellow, one painted deep red, one periwinkle, one buzz light year blue, and one chocolate brown.
Good Luck to YOU!!! I can't wait to see what you do.

Well, I personally wish my whole house interior was WHITE. I think accenting with a color is the total answer.

If you decide AGAINST using alot of color, you gotta check out Patina White's blog (awesome) and Cottage Elements blog...these two women from Minnesota ROCK.

Love your blog! Happy 2010...Andrea

And here I am, with my blue walls and green kitchen island, pining over the all-white rooms I see everywhere!

The grass is always greener...or...whiter... ;)

Wow! Gives me so much inspiration to re-do my own kitchen! It's very small, so it wouldn't be hard. I love that light blue color. Gorgeous!

I'm with you on color "issues". I've made waaay to many mistakes with color, now I'm totally gun shy.

I'm a bit like you... So I splash colour everywhere over the neutrals and change them when I've had enough. Colour goes with 'mood' for me so having a turquoise kitchen all the time wouldn't fit, although it would be great for summer! Maybe you're just too colourful to be able to label yourself ;-)

Look forward to seeing what you come up with!
I was recently persuaded to paint a floor in a pale green-grey and even though I am amazed at how much I adore it!
We have so much STUFF that we really only get away with white walls in our house!

I love color also but other than red my color favorites tend to change every year. Right now I'm in the process of removing color from my home and adding splashes of my current favorites here and there. I find it very hard to make a big color commitment but seeing the photos you've collected I ask myself - - why not! It's beautiful!

Oooo, I love those first two. That is probably because they are devoid of any vibrant colour !!!! You see, I am like you. I wear black, grey with touches of white or, if I'm being brave, brown !!.... and the same goes for decorating although, I love my friends colourful houses. I'm a lot longer in the tooth than you and I still haven't changed. I look forward to seeing if you can break the habit.
Have a wonderful New Year's Eve and I wish you and your family everything that you wish yourselves for 2010. With love. XXXX

Now now, lets not rush in to anything. I love color too but I have a hard time too. I just got white slipcovers for some chairs. I thought about color but just couldn't commit so white it was!
Maybe we could start a support group.
