dreams of autumn

~found here

I don't know if I have ever been happier to wake up to a cool, overcast day here in Seattle. Ever. It is simply divine and I am filled with aspirations for the day as it is finally cool enough to do the things I have been wanting to do for far too long!

First on the list, we will be making pickles.  Dill pickles.  Sweet pickles.  Bread and butter pickles.

Next, we will be making cookies.  Finally - the oven can be used and cookies can once again grace the cookie jar!

All of this joy has me thinking of my favorite season - Autumn.  You see, I have always loved autumn.  I love the changing of the leaves, the return of our routine with school starting, football season.  (hey, I am a girl of the midwest - I love my football!)  This year, however, I find that I am looking forward to autumn even more than most years.  I am sure that it is due to this heat wave we have been experiencing.  Don't get me wrong, I also love a beautiful sunny summer day.  What I don't love is going to bed when our room is 93 degrees.  I don't love having to shower three times a day.  I don't love not being able to use my oven or stove for weeks at a time.  So, with the return of some cooler weather comes the return of the life that I most enjoy.

It gets me thinking of my wardrobe, and how it needs an overhaul.  I have been loving gray lately, and it seems that I will have no problem finding fabulous gray items to add to my closet this season~

There is also my very favorite body wash.  Yes, I know it says hand wash, but keep this little treasure in your shower with a puff and you are golden on those autumn/winter/early spring mornings when you need the light, refreshing scent of lemons.  Love it!

And finally, I start to think about one of my favorite days of the year - My Birthday!  I  love my birthday, as it is the one day I really, truly feel like it is my day to be a true queen.  I love how spoiled I am by all of the love and attention that, while I receive it throughout the year, seems to be especially abundant that day.  And, as this is my last year in my 30s - yes, next year is the big FOUR-O,  I would like it to be a little special this year.  This little beauty has appealed to me lately....  However, I am also open to a pair of simple diamond earrings.  Totally open honey, if you happen to wander by here...

Hey, you. I am turning 39 this birthday, too. And, it is coming up much too quickly. GAH! Seems an odd sort of landmark-ish birthday, doesn't it? Are you struggling with it? I am thinking about turning 37 instead. I figure I can bounce around between 38 and 35 for a few years anyway. Then, eventually, I can turn, 30ten or 30 eleven, etc. How's that for a plan?

I leave the same exact Tiffany's hint... I normally just say "Teal box, white bow" then look him in the eye. That's all that really needs to be said around here! Haha.

Oh my, I'm such a spring & summer girl. If Autumn lasted one month & we could bounce right back, I'd love it too. My mindset is so different, & the seasons are not kind to me. Or is it that I am not kind to them? I wonder... Whatever, pickles & cookies are always a good idea :-)

I hate to wish away time, but I know what you mean. This has been the weirdest summer ever, in lots of ways (not just weather). Happy to hear you are getting a cool reprieve.

No simple diamond earrings...you want earrings that make your head hang low and say that you are the mother of his children!

love your post ! I was just thinking of autumn today as I was sweeping my back porch area.
I love seasons...
And this year was the first year my hubby surprised me with a 'little blue box'.... he set it on my bedside table so when I awoke it would be the first thing I saw.
Yes, I cried.
I always wanted something from Tiffanys !!

My daughter would love to be around while you are doing the pickles. She loves pickles!

me too, i love those cool fall days. we usually get much too short of an autumn season here as it stays warm so long.
funny thing, i was just telling my sweetie this morning on our walk about my "seattle blog friends" and their heat wave.
hope you enjoyed your day friend

Loving the pickles and the slippers you chose... Not wanting Autumn to arrive too quickly as most of our summer has consisted of rain ~ did someone move me to the west coast without me knowing?? I do not mind the heat, it's the humidity that gets me down and I melt.
I am hoping to get to Tiffany's in September when we go to NYC. I am sure Chris will get the hint ~ he is usually good like that!

Fall is my absolute favorite season, too!! For all the reasons you pointed, and more... Nothing better that being home on a rainy and cold day browsing through a favorite magazine and sipping some tea... Can't wait to see you think weekend!

Living in Sydney Australia where are seasons are practically unmarked, I too, love Autumn - the crispness in the air is such a welcome change from the humid hot summers, and still the sky is blue and the sun shines - beautiful!

Id love to bake but after baking all day in the 113 degree heat its nothing but salads, ice tea * watermelon every night.
Fall is my favorite time of year & I do miss it soo much now. I kept all my lovely wools, cashmeres & every now & then gaze lingingly at them. Not to mention applem butter & cider, donuts carmaels apples too & all the crips spicy times of autumn.

I like autumn but I am sorry when summer is over, and I never look forward to winter... Too cold, too wet, but just makes me look forward to Spring! I hope you get the Tiffany treasure for your bday. My big boys gave it to me a few bdays ago and I love it! I have almost worn it until the heart is worn off.
JOY!

I was reading your post and thinking that I could have written it. I too love Autumn. I can not wait for Autumn! We haven't had much heat until now but we've had so much rain it is as if summer was cancelled this year.

I am just hoping that with the late arrival of Summer that we don't have a delay in Autumn.

I love the clothes you've selected too. Just my style.
