sixteen? really???

Last weekend #1 turned 16. It is a little bit shocking, especially when I have such good friends who have recently sent me messages with lovely reminders of the sweet things he used to do when he was little. It is amazing how many things I have forgotten - memories that seem so long ago.

He was, of course, my first. He has been the first everything since then when it comes to children. And let me tell you, he could not be a better first - honestly. He is what every parent dreams of when they imagine what their son would be like. He is kind, he is courteous. He is friendly - quick to smile. He is so mature that there are times I wonder if he is really mine... He has such an incredible sense of self, of self-esteem, of what he believes. He has wonderful friends, true friends, good friends. They are great kids and such fun to have around.

He is quick to help when I need it, wonderful (most of the time...) with his brothers, a hard worker. His loyalty runs deep - he doesn't fake his feelings - if he is your friend, he truly is your friend. He is incredibly responsible, reliable, and dependable. I feel incredibly blessed that he is a part of this family.

He had some friends over for the night - some of those really fabulous boys. They ate, they had a bon fire, they ate again. We had stocked up on all of the junk food that #1 likes best. We ordered pizza. We picked up ice cream cake (his favorite). We had s'more fixins. I am sure they were up terribly late - I certainly wasn't awake to see for myself... The next morning we had a big farm house breakfast before they left. It was such fun~

You know, I wouldn't go back to 16 for anything, but it is fun to be a part of it with him.

Happy Belated Birthday to #1!

The cake look delicious, and without wishing to embarrass him, may I just say your son is very stylish.

Lastly, having been a teacher, I have spoken to parents who do not appreciate the children they have.More parents should be like you. x

Has he read the wonderful tribute on your blog :) It is a true blessing, isn't it? Happy 16th and many many more. If it wasn't for home videos and my journals, I too would not remember anything, especially when you have more than one child.
The cake looks great....yummy!

I would've loved a party like that at 16! What a lucky young man. I don't know that I can ever have boys as I can barely feed my Husband.

Gosh your house is beautiful, I love the little snippets of your interior. I just referred another blogger to talk to you about your carerra countertops. She's weighing the pros and cons.

Awww...this post brought tears to my eyes! I love seeing parents & kids in tune with each other like this! My eldest is 8 years old and I feel the same about him. I am constantly wishing I could slow time down. They grow so fast! But it is wonderful to be by their side and witness it all. Happy Birthday to your eldest...looks like it was a wonderful celebration! :)

Wow. We are only two years away from that with our #1, and yes, shocking is a word I imagine being rather apt!
Given that it is often with the first we make our mistakes, can I say, all those wonderful attributes you have listed, for all that they are his, I do believe as parents our job is to be facilitators for the growth of these precious flowers we have been entrusted with. And look, dearheart: this is your son! I reckon a hearty congratulations should go to you two as the parents! What a wonderful addition to the world you have been part of!
