Vintage Egg Baskets

Those of you who have boys, especially boys older than 3, you should be able to relate to this post.

We have an entry that isn't overly large, and that tends to gather shoes at an astronomical rate.  And to clarify, these aren't tidy, organized by pairs, neatly lined up shoes.  These are kicked off/left in the direct path of traffic/piled higher than shoes should ever be...  These shoes have left endless scuff marks on our beautiful french canvas white walls with their matching base boards.  Dark, ugly scuffs that don't wipe off.  I have searched endlessly for a shoe rack that would fit in this particular space, and would hold more than three pairs of shoes.  Oh, and that was cool, or vintage, or even remotely interesting.

After seeing so many blogs on reusing vintage items for other uses, and repurposing baskets - a look that I really like, I found these fabulous vintage egg baskets.  I love them!  I love that they aren't perfect, that they don't sit completely right, and that the paint is chippy.  There is one for each boy, and space for two pair of shoes per man-child.  The true test will be, however, if the boys use them...

Very clever use of such sweet baskets. And already dressed up for spring in their minty green.

. . . the baskets are actually MILK baskets. But, hey, it's dairy and darling nevertheless!

They are actually used by my local egg farmer - Stiebrs Farms - to deliver his eggs to my favorite market:

The milk baskets that the market had didn't seem to go in at the top the way the egg baskets do.
