La Madone

My sweet friend Simone in London posted about Paris today, which she knew I would love.  I am planning an extended trip there to celebrate my 40th birthday, and I am hoping she will join me for a long weekend.

Another place that I want to visit for part of my trip is the south of France.  I haven't been there before and am so excited to spend a few days just wandering the villages and countryside in search of treasures and amazing photographs.  Some days these thoughts occupy every free moment my mind has to offer...  The problem is, there are so many places that I want to visit, but simply not enough time...  Thus, I want to find a couple of places and really enjoy a few days absorbing each of those particular places.  Now the question is, where to go...

One place I would {LOVE} to stay for a bit is La Madone in APT en Luberon.  The very sweet Corey of Tongue in Cheek raves about them and who on earth wouldn't want to stay there???  I have decided on the Renaissance suite ~

However I also really like the Chanvre suite...

La Madone has a lovely pool, not to mention the maison itself is beautiful.

I have always wanted to visit Avignon and I hope to rent a car to explore the area with Francis.

I will keep you posted as plans progress.  And of course, all suggestions and advice are welcome and greatly appreciated!

You'll have a great time with Simone I'm sure! Gorgeous images. I have dreamt about them over at Tongue in Cheek where I often go to travel vicariously. What a wonderful way to celebrate your 40th. Julie

Ha! I was just thinking yesterday I want to go to France for my 40th. Lucky girl! Southern France is wonderful. Just rent a car and travel along the ocean. I've only been to Nice and Monte Carlo but both were amazing!!

You will love the Lubéron area...no recommendations are really necessary except to say that there is a rich literary history there as well as artistic. (And I decidedly do not mean A Year in...stuff tho' that's fine as far as it goes. I kind of groan though.) Was looking for some poems for you but knee-deep in papers & part of the fun is finding for yourself. When I come upon stuff, I shall forward.

I love the south, for sure, esp. Avignon, Vence, the larger places, too. Memories & beauty are found anywhere, if you look. But you know that already.

I lived in Alsace (in Strasbourg) & it is so overlooked by the shrill-bloggers-about-Paris. If you read French, read some French bloggers about this unfortunate American/UK/Australian hysteria. They're laughing, ladies. And not with us.

"Real France" is wherever you are so you can take it with you...the moveable feast, yes? Hemingway didn't mean only Paris. And now I slink off as people are probably hissing at me. I'm not dissing anyone here. At all. But I'm too nervous to subscribe to follow-up comments. You can't believe how many people object to real comments (not mean ones at all) about this kind of stuff. Like I'm sticking the proverbial pin in their ballon rouge.

PS: Those rose images are looking more tempting than ever. Restraining self until autumn.

We took the Eurostar down to Avignon last year, picked up a car and drove through Luberon to Verdon, then up to Mont Ventoux, over to Orange (not so great) and then back to Avignon via the vineyards. Absolutely magic. Would thoroughly recommend Moulin du chateau. www.moulin-du-chateau.com. Nicholas and Edith are wonderful.
