lego day on the farm

In an attempt to find cool, low energy projects for us to do, yesterday #3 and I went off to the mall for a few hours of air conditioning, a bit of shopping, and a visit to the Lego store - this was daddy's idea.  I should mention that one of my least favorite places to visit is the mall - especially an indoor mall.  We have some really nice outdoor malls here in Seattle, and those aren't all that bad, but the indoor mall is someplace I don't often go.  Yesterday however, with the thought of spending some time in a relatively cool place, it was simply too inviting to avoid...

We had fun picking out projects for us to build, and when we came home, we went down into the "dorm room" - the bottom floor of the house which is # 1 & 2's room.  While it has a full wall of west-facing windows, the back half of it is underground, thus, it is definitely the coolest room we have.  We sat on the floor for a few hours, building and playing.  It was actually quite pleasant, until you went upstairs and realized just how warm it actually was!

I have #4 in minimal clothing these days, in an attempt to keep him as cool as possible.

Today #3 and I are off to the lake with my friend Melaine of My Sweet Savannah.  I hope to take lots of photos to share~
Stay cool,
xo

How fun! I used to love legos when I was a kid. I've heard there is a horrible heat wave in your area. Here in Alabama, we are having to take shelter from the rain. I don't think it is EVER going to stop!

Have a blast at the lake!

Hi!

I found your blog through Lola B's and I love it! I just love your style and beautiful creations. And I was even more excited to see you're in Seattle! My husband and I are planning a trip there Labor Day weekend for a football game. While we are there we are really wanting to explore the area. I would love any suggestions you might have for great places to stay, eat and shop. I'll send an email. If that's okay?

Try to stay cool. I know all about the heat, we're in south louisiana and I don't know what we would do without ac!

Take care,
Adrienne

A perfect solution on a hot day! It's been nice here lately, but when we have those heat waves, we head to the movies (nice and cool).

My kids love legos too. They spent a solid 2 days in the basement earlier in the summer doing nothing but legos. Great thing for them to do...builds imagination:)

I couldn't agree with you more- indoor malls are not my thing, but alas, when the heat rises, it is a perfect way to spend the day! I still love Legos, although they are horrible to step on! Have a great day :) XOXO

I must show my 6-year-old these pics. He is obsessed with Legos & Bionicles and could play for hours with them. What a great way to spend time & get to see your little one use their creativity! Way to go Mom!

Your "heat" posts reminds me that we are actually getting a break from our humid summers....so I should not be whining that we aren't having a real summer. Keep cool and you do have that really cool looking fan.

Glad to read you are keeping cool! I actually woke up at 2am and took an icy shower just to keep it together through the night!
LOTS of swimming.
All good things,

Keeping you and all of the Pacific Northwest in my thoughts. As a midwesterner, I am much more tolerant of the extreme heat you are experiencing and better equipped!

I had to laugh at the indoor mall comment, b/c it is just the opposite here (KC). We have an outdoor mall (The Plaza) and I always curse myself for shopping their b/c it typically feels like a 100 degree day or 30-below...and I think to myself...who shops at malls like this?!!! Now I know!

Praying for a break in the weather for you, but have seriously enjoyed the record-setting below normal temperatures here in the heartland.

Blessings to you,
Valerie

Seattle without rain? how unusual.

I think Lego is a cool and inventive idea - literally. Your babes are adorable and I'm sure appreciative of what a good mom you are.

I have funny-ish links for you of an English comedian called Eddie Izzard and a fan's treatment of his skit in Lego - the language is far too colourful for the kids and even for me, but I hope you can appreciate the humour, xx

Good use of the in-house time! We used to call these days "snow days" when we lived in NY b/c it was so HOT (but you also get the bonus humidity out there ;) ). The good news about the NW is that we'll be back on track here soon and you and your legoboyz can frolic in the yard again :)

With 3 boys, I know all about LEGO. They have gigantic bins and bins of Legos.
They started building Lego at 4 years old, and at 15, they still build EVERY DAY !!!!!!!

Loved seeing your guys build legos. My 13 year old son just sold his 1000's of legos for $40 on craigslist. If I was there with you, I would totally get down on the floor and build with you.

Hugs,

Lisa
